A 65-year-old woman who claims she was fired after she refused to retire from her sales job at a local automobile dealership has filed suit so she can work for a competitor. In a lawsuit filed this week in state District Court in Harris County, Carolyn Cross, a longtime manager for Sonic Automotive, claims she should not be bound by a noncompetition agreement because she was terminated without cause.

United Airlines will resume Dreamliner service on May 20 with a round-trip Houston-to-Chicago flight, its first since the Boeing 787 was grounded in January because of problems with its lithium-ion batteries. The Federal Aviation Administration review of the 787's electrical systems was triggered by a series of incidents, including the diversion in early December of a Newark, N.J.-bound United Dreamliner from Houston after one of the plane's six electrical generators failed. In addition to being lauded as the world's most fuel-efficient aircraft, the Dreamliner claimed that by adjusting cabin pressure it could reduce headaches, dry eyes and fatigue that can be experienced at high altitudes. Jack Stelzer, a Houston-based airline consultant, said he does not believe the grounding will have much effect on customer expectations or airline revenues.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that it would award Southwest Airlines two slot exemptions to operate the new service, which will be the first nonstop service from Hobby Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport just outside the capital, according to a statement. "Southwest's service will provide air travelers with a new, low-cost option when they fly between Reagan National and Houston," Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement.

Several children, including Jazmin Alvarez, were walking southbound on the northbound side of FM 1314 and Bert Brown from a nearby trailer park where they live, officials said in interviews with the Montgomery County Police Reporter. The children were heading toward the Citgo store about a mile-and-a-half from the trailer park to buy gum, Erik Burse, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, said in the interview.
