Audubon Society publishes birdhouse guide
One of the best ways to attract desirable birds to your yard is to put up a house where they can raise their young.
The book explains why birds need nesting sites, profiles some notable humans who have taken up the cause of protecting birds and discusses threats to birds, such as predators and pesticides.
The bulk of the book, though, is dedicated to plans and instructions for building birdhouses appropriate for the particular types of birds you want to attract.
"Audubon Birdhouse Book" is published by Voyageur Press and sells for $24.99 in softcover.
Alarm clocks get smart
Remember when an alarm clock just woke you? Now there's one that helps plan your day.
Paired with your smartphone, Quirky's Nimbus clock can be customized to tell you whatever you need to know the first thing in the morning — perhaps the traffic report, or your schedule, or even how your latest Facebook post is faring. The clock has four screens, each of which displays the information you choose. The information updates constantly, just as on a smartphone.
