Six-week classes for adults include: "Fundamentals of Drawing" with John Grieco (Oct. 15-Nov. 19); "Figure & Watercolor Painting" with Christy Gallagher (Oct. 23-Nov. 27); "Landscape Painting" with Dana Goodfellow (Oct. 25-Dec. 6); "Atelier: The Complete Course on Art" with Eddie Nino (Oct. 25-Dec. 6); "How To Paint: The Art of Technique" with Robert Baxter (Oct. 31-Dec. 12);:"Painting Principles" with Karl Soderlund (Nov. 7-Dec. 19); and "Fundamentals of Drawing" with John Grieco (Nov. 9-Dec. 21). "Mix It Up!" a creative and expressive mixed media workshop with Anne McCormick is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 and "Painting & Critique for All Levels," a workshop with Karl Soderlund will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3. "Above, Beneath & Beyond Photo Montage," an illustrated presentation by Dick Ventre and some of his models, is planned for Saturday, Nov. 10.
RAC seeks donations for art tag sale
The Rowayton Arts Center is seeking donations of items in excellent or good condition for "Arts & Ends," a sale of art and art-related items to benefit RAC programs. Donations may include original artwork in all media, art reproductions, antique photographs, art-related books (how-to, biographies, fine art, coffee-table), crafts and art supplies/equipment (brushes, paint, pastels, stretcher bars, canvas, paper, palates, easels, drawing boards), photography equipment (cameras, tripods), frames, matting, items for youth (art games, books, materials). The artistic tag sale will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21, at the Rowayton Community Center, 33 Highland Ave. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Get crafty Oct. 10
The library is offering craft time for adults. Come make your own fashionable cigar box purse. All the supplies--a variety of cigar boxes, fabric for lining, beads, buttons, and other materials for creating handles, closures and embellishing--will be provided along with a light lunch at the library, Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. RSVP is a must as space is limited. Commissioners' meeting slated Wednesday
The Sixth Taxing District will be holding the next Commissioners' Meeting on Wednesday at 8 p. m. at the Rowayton Community Center, 33 Highland Ave. Review of the 2012 Bayley Beach Season, the Old School Fence sign policy a presentation by Shakespeare on the Sound are on the agenda. The Commission meets monthly on the second Wednesday evening of each month. The public is welcome at any meeting. For information, contact Andrea Woodworth, District Clerk at 203-854-5066.
Fairy Yarn Mothers teach children to knit
The library continues with its Fairy Yarn Mother's program for young knitters ages 8 and up once a month with NancyJo Rambusch. The program on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. is designed to help kid knitters of all skill levels work on their projects. As space is limited, please make a reservation. Bring your own needles and projects. First time students to our knitting program will be provided with a pair of knitting needles and yarn to start learning or working on a project. For information, call 203-838-5038.
Enjoy movie night at the library
On Friday night, October 12 at 7 p.m., the library will show the movie "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." The movie follows seven cash-strapped seniors who decide to "outsource" their retirement to a resort in far-off India. Friendship and romance blossom in the most unexpected ways. The movie is Rated PG-13 and the run time is 124 minutes. Popcorn will be served. This program is free and open to the public.
Save the date for Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 7-13. Come to the Open House at the Rowayton Fire Station at 136 Rowayton Ave. on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. The Fire Safety Trailer will be there for families to explore and learn about having "two ways out." For information, call 203-838-1650. The library will be handing out smoke detector batteries free (while supplies last) Monday, Oct. 8- Saturday, Oct. 13.
Events to Note
The library will be closed on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 8 and will reopen late on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 12:30 p.m. due to a technology upgrade.
