Come sing along

to sea songs at RAC

Join us Sunday, Feb. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. to sing along or just listen during the monthly celebration of the Rowayton Arts Center's presentation of maritime heritage. Special guests from New York and throughout Connecticut join Deirdre Murtha of The Johnson Girls and her husband, Sean, in leading rousing nautical songs. Refreshments included in $5 admission.

Pet portraits

at Brendan's 101

Brendan's 101 Gallery will be featuring the pet portraits of local artist Stuart Carr Weismiller beginning Wednesday, Feb. 20. She frequently incorporates humor in her work to reflect a whimsical situation or an unspoken character trait, such as how a dog might really feel about life. Her pet portrait commissions hang in happy homes throughout the United States. There will be a reception for the artist at Brendan's on March 2 from 6 to 8 pm.

Whether you're an artist or just want to learn more about how artists think and create, you're invited to join a conversation with four artists about their work that was juried into "Expressions 2013" at the Rowayton Arts Center, Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Joel Flora will moderate the discussion about the artists' work and artistic process in the RAC Gallery. A reception follows the discussion.

Great Decisions Discussion Group

The library's Great Decisions Discussion Group meets on alternating Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The topic Feb. 20 will be how NATO's agenda has evolved since its inception during the Cold War. Developed by the Foreign Policy Association, the Great Decisions Discussion Program is the oldest and largest grass-roots world affairs education program of its kind in the country. The sessions are led by Erik Rambusch, adjunct professor at Norwalk Community College. For information and program materials, call 203-838-5038.

Calling all pets

The Rowayton Library will pay tribute to the "Pets of Rowayton" for the sixth stright year on the library's website in March. The library also will use their pictures to create a poster to inspire the children of this community to read. Visit http://pets.rowayton.org and fill out the form, attach a JPG format picture of your pet (no people), and tell us your pet's name, breed, age, and funny anecdotes you want to add. Include your name, address, and telephone number. This is a free program and is open to all pets in Rowayton. The deadline for submission is Feb 28.

Roth to play coffeehouse

Join the community on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Good Folk Coffeehouse to hear David Roth. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the music starts at 8. Adult donations are $25 and children 7-12 are $12.50. Children under 7 are welcome. Roth strikes many chords, hearts and minds with his unique songs, offbeat observations, moving stories, sense of the hilarious and powerful singing and subject matter. TeaTime and Letterwriting Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. Come enjoy a cup of hot tea and a cookie or two and write a letter or two. Choose from a selection of writing paper, fountain pens and sealing wax and the postage is on the library.
