Columbus Magnet School's lottery enrollment for the 2013-14 school year has begun. Applications are now being accepted for all grade levels (kindergarten through fifth grade). Using the restructured lottery system, incoming students are drawn based on their home-school district. Siblings will be factored in by district before the lottery draw. Applications should be submitted in person or mailed to: Columbus Magnet School, 46 Concord Street, South Norwalk CT 06854.
Applications are available at the school's main office and at www.norwalk.k12.ct.us/columbus. All applications must be submitted on or before Friday, March 29, at 4 p.m.
Two informational lottery open houses for prospective parents are scheduled: Thursday, Jan. 31, and Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Guided tours will be offered by the Columbus Student Ambassadors to prospective parents during the lottery application period and will showcase the learning taking place at the school.
The tours will begin at 11 a.m. and last for approximately one hour. The schedule is as follows: Wednesdays, Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27 and March 6, 13, 20 and 27. Reservations are required. Columbus Magnet School is an alternative public elementary school that is open to all students grades K-5 residing in Norwalk. Columbus' Bank Street/HOT School program utilizes a social studies based integrated curriculum. The constructivist program addresses the intellectual, social and emotional needs of each child through a hands-on, experimental, arts integrated model.
