The Norwalk Parking Authority and Car Charging Group Inc., a provider of electric vehicle charging services, have added the Maritime Garage and the Yankee Doodle Garage to the municipal parking facilities that offer Norwalk residents and visitors EV charging stations. The first stations were installed at the South Norwalk train station in January.
Car Charging Group installed a Level II ChargePoint Networked Charging Station, manufactured by Coulomb Technologies, at the Maritime Garage at 11 North Water St. and another at the Yankee Doodle Garage at 1 Burnell Boulevard.
"The core of our mission is to meet the parking needs of businesses, residents and visitors," said John Federici, chairman of the Norwalk Parking Authority. "With the arrival of these EV charging stations, the Norwalk Parking authority is preparing to meet their evolving needs, while requiring no capital outlay from the Authority or the city of Norwalk."
Car Charging Group provides EV charging stations at no charge to property owners/managers while retaining ownership, thus allowing drivers access to convenient locations and partners to realize a percentage of the charging revenue generated.
"For every one electric car sold, automakers want to have 1.4 charging stations," said Car Charging Group CEO Michael D. Farkas. "It is assumed every electric vehicle owner will have a charging station at home, but the other 0.4 must come from places where cars are parked for extended periods of time, such as parking garages. The city of Norwalk gets that."
The car chargers arepart of the Norwalk Parking Authority's commitment to making operations more sustainable. Other recent green initiatives include the installation of solar powered pay stations, environmentally friendly lighting at all Norwalk Parking Authority garages and the use of a T3 scooter for security at the South Norwalk railroad station.
