The Norwalk Fire Department recently held swearing-in ceremonies for two newly appointed lieutenants. Firefighter Charles Papadopoulos and firefighter Leonard Coleman were promoted to fill vacant lieutenants positions due to their standing on the lieutenants promotional list.
Lt. Papadopoulos is a 16-year veteran of the department and his father and uncle were both Norwalk firefighters. Lt. Coleman is a nine-year veteran of the department.
Their oath of office was administered by Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia and Fire Commissioner Carol Andrioli as Fire Chief Denis McCarthy, fellow firefighters and family were on hand to witness the ceremony.
In related news, the Norwalk and Westport fire departments, along with O'Neill's Pub are sponsoring a fundraiser on Sept. 21 from 3 to 9 p.m. to build a playground in South Norwalk. The playground will be built in honor of Allison Wyatt, a 6-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook tragedy.
At the Sept. 21 event there will be live music, a pizza truck, raffles and more.
A group of volunteers with the Sandy Ground Project has set a goal of building 26 playgrounds in the tri-state area. Norwalk's playground will be built at Oyster Shell Park. The Norwalk project will cost $90,000 -- all coming through donations and sponsorships.
