Star Inc. Lighting the Way, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families, will have its 10th annual Galaxy of Stars Gala and Benefit on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Woodway Country Club in Darien.
The event will include dinner, dancing, a live and silent auction, as well as an artist invitational of original Star-themed art pieces that also will be auctioned off to benefit the agency.
This artist invitational recalls the Stars on Parade project of 10 years ago, when large fiberglass star sculptures were decorated by local artists and auctioned at the 50th anniversary celebration and gala dinner at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien to benefit Star's services. Many of the sculptures are displayed in Mid-Fairfield County towns such as Norwalk, Westport, Weston, Wilton, Darien and New Canaan.
Since then, the gala has taken place each year and has raised more than $2 million for Star's programs and services. To commemorate the anniversary, many of the original participating artists are again supporting Star -- this time decorating porcelain plates in a Star theme or theme of their choice. The plates will be fired and finished by Wirth-Salander Ceramics of Wilton and formed into cake plates. Wirth-Salander is comprised of the internationally recognized ceramicist team of Kim Salander and Georgette Wirth, whose clients include top architects, interior designers and celebrities, and whose work has appeared in the pages of numerous home decorating magazines.
Artists participating in the project include Nina Bentley, Elise Black, Miggs Burroughs, Dana Cobb, Colleen Flannery Caceres, Lisa Floryshak-Windman, Leslie Giuliani, Eileen Grace, Jill Harrington-Nichols, Mark Polyakov, Martha Robinson, Zoe Hedstrom, Nash Hyon, Anne Jayson, Kathleen Lee, Janet Luongo, Roger Mudre, Lela Philip, Erin Riley, Jennifer Sabella, Kim Salander, Stacey Saraceni, Leslie Giuliani, Suzy Tarnowicz, Katie Banzhaf and Nancy Armstrong.
Of these, nine artists are from the original group that participated in the very first Galaxy of Stars Gala and Auction.
