Norwalk Mariners Soccer Club is hosting breast cancer awareness fundraisers to benefit the Smilow Center at all home soccer matches through Nov. 3. The Mariners will wear pink uniforms and support bracelets and play with a pink soccer ball.
A Health Talk television show on "Evaluation of Women at Increased Risk for Breast Cancer" will broadcast the week of Oct. 13 each evening at 8 and 10 p.m. on Cablevision Channel 84. Health Talk, co-hosted by Drs. Eric Mazur and Vicki Smetak, features interviews with physicians and health professionals. During the week of Oct. 13, guests include Dr. Heather Frimmer, director of the Suite for Women's Imaging, Norwalk Radiology & Mammography Center; Dr. George Zahrah, oncologist and director of the Cancer Genetic Program; and Laura Gianninoto, breast health specialist.
The Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer Support Group at Norwalk Hospital will meet Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 9:30 a.m. Patients receive emotional and practical support in a relaxed, supportive and confidential gathering facilitated by Mary Heery, breast health specialist, and Michelle Dailey, family therapist.
The 6 East Nurses at Norwalk Hospital will join the staff in the Smilow Center to provide an information booth on breast cancer awareness on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Games, prizes and give-aways will be available.
Yoga on the Green will take place at Veterans Park in Westport on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a $25 donation, yoga instructors will conduct sessions. The event is sponsored by the Westport Downtown Merchants Association and Lululman Ahtletica of Westport, maker of technical athletic clothes for yoga, running and working out. Proceeds benefit integrative medicine for breast cancer patients at Norwalk Hospital.
Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Tea and Stories, hosted by the 6 East Nursing Staff and the Smilow Center, will take place Thursday, Oct. 24, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Richard S. Perkin Auditorium at the hospital. The speakers include Gianninotto, Heery, Zarek Mena, certified patient navigator, and breast cancer survivors.
The Norwalk Hospital Breast Cancer Survivor Fashion Show will take place Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Darien Sport Shop. Breast cancer survivors, all of whom were treated at Norwalk Hospital, will share their personal stories while they model the latest fashions provided by the Darien Sport Shop. The event is catered by Palmer's Market.
The team of the Smilow Center will participate in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of the American Cancer Society Sunday, Oct. 27, at 9 a.m. at Sherwood Island State Park, Westport.
Klaffs in South Norwalk will host a DesiGYNs Thursday, Nov. 14, at 5:30 p.m. The event, focused on gynecologic cancer awareness, will feature a presentation by Dr. Adam Ofer, chief of gynecology at Norwalk Hospital.
