State Police announced early last Friday that a missing infant and her mother were found in a hotel in Norwalk.

State Police issued an alert early last Thursday afternoon for the infant, 7-month-old Emily Acevedo, and her mother, Kelley Acevedo.

Police said acting on a tip they found Kelley Acevedo and her daughter last Thursday night in a Westport Avenue hotel.

The state Department of Children and Families took custody of the girl.

The two disappeared following a court date last Wednesday in Norwalk, where Kelley Acevedo was given a suspended 90-day jail sentence and one-year probation for a sixth-degree larceny conviction.

Acevedo and her daughter were supposed to have returned to a New Haven drug treatment center following the appearance.

Assistant Public Defender James Lamontagne said the treatment center called him at about 9:30 a.m. last Thursday to ask if Acevedo appeared for her court date and if he knew where she went.

"This was a shock to me. She seemed fine to me, the baby was fine. Everything was good," said Lamontagne, who added that Acevedo's probation required her to return to the New Haven center and continue treatment.

State Police Sgt. Donna Tadiello said state police received a request shortly before noon last Thursday from Norwalk police requesting the alert. After the information was processed, the notification was sent through the state's emergency alert system at 12:55 p.m., Tadiello said.

Norwalk Police Sgt. David O'Connor said the state Department of Children and Families called Norwalk police at 8:55 a.m. to report the baby and mother missing.

He said the baby's father and Kelley Acevedo's mother also reported the two missing.
