The Norwalk High School marching band and color guard have been hard at work at “band boot camp” preparing the 2011 fall show, “An American Summer”.
The Marching Bears, NHS Band Director Chris Rivera, school officials and local dignitaries celebrated the band’s accomplishments and got a preview of the new fall show in the band’s first public performance last Friday night at Andrews Field.
The “Spirit Night” marks the start of competition season.
“An American Summer” is a show that takes place during a typical 1940s summer. Presented in chapters rather than separate songs, the show opens with a parade scene, then segues into a lazy summer afternoon. Chapter three is all fun, with Latin, blues and swing music providing the backdrop for a big summer party. The feel-good mood is short-lived, and we’re reminded that WWII isn’t over in Chapter Four, which delivers hard-hitting sounds and music along with forceful visuals.
Now that “Spirit Night” has come and gone, there are other ways to support the band:
Help out at Can and Bottle Drives at Andrew’s Field: Please show up anytime between 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. to help, on the second Saturday of the month. Contact Chuck Goulart for more information.
