The Norwalk Stamp Club will be hosting its annual stamp show on Saturday. NORPEX 2012, the 36th annual stamp show sponsored by the Norwalk Stamp Club, will take place on from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Norwalk Senior Center, 11 Allen Road in Norwalk. Admission and parking are free. The show theme will mark the 50th anniversary of the first American to orbit the earth.
The show will feature stamp and cover exhibits plus postal collectibles from world-class dealers, which will include U.S. and world-wide stamps, first day covers, topical and collateral material for beginners to advanced collectors, as well as supplies needed by collectors. There will be door prizes and refreshments will be available.
Free stamp albums and stamp packets for beginners will be available in the Beginner-Youth Corner, where newcomers can learn about collecting, identifying and mounting stamps. In addition, young and seasoned collectors can enjoy a philatelically-related Geo-Safari game. The `Beginner's Booth' will be organized and staffed by members of Ye Olde King's Highway Stamp Club of Darien.
A special theme-oriented show cancel will be available as well a postal sub-station. Artwork for this year's NORPEX cachet was provided by Christopher Calle, an internationally-known illustrator and designer of more than 200 stamps worldwide.
