The navy blue UConn cap is saturated with a season's worth of sweat, but not even the powdery white residue can hide Bryan Daniello's messages.

Just above the brim in the lower right corner on the front of the cap is etched "SH" for the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

(Both messages are) just a personal thing, a memory for the kids who had their lives taken at such a young age, and it's a shame.

Daniello's temperament, in addition to his baseball skills, have been a pleasant addition to a struggling Huskies squad (28-25) that opened the Big East tournament May 15 in Clearwater, Fla., despite going 9-15 in conference this season.

The ups and downs experienced while trying to adjust to college ball are nothing new to freshmen, but Daniello's ball cap helps keep things in perspective.

Many Connecticut residents and business operators have demanded information about how the state awards millions of dollars in tax breaks, grants and loans to companies, hoping to lure them to the state or dissuade them from leaving, and state Comptroller Kevin Lembo is optimistic that a bill in the General Assembly will quell their concerns.

House Bill 6566 has gone through changes to satisfy concerns of legislators, government officials and the business community, he said, but remains viable.

UBS, the Swiss banking giant that has its North American headquarters in Stamford, also received a big incentive package to keep jobs in the state, while NBC Sports received a $20 million deal to move to Stamford from New York.

“I’m not overly concerned about those issues (tax credits, grants and loans),” she said, adding that supporting affordable housing, education, infrastructure and transportation amid a budget crisis is her concern.

There remains a slight chance of showers Sunday night as the temperature dips to a low in the mid-50s.
