SOUTHBURY -- The Norwalk Riptide 12u softball team finished 5-0 in the Fairfield County Fastpitch League tournament last week in Southbury and took home the top prize.
The Riptide, which also posted a winning record during the FCFSL regular season, ended the perfect weekend with an 11-4 win over the Bethel Blast in the championship game. Dina DiBlasio, Mackenzie Lowden, Gabby Catino, Keara Meyerson, Brianny Garcia and Skyler Suda all paced the offense in the win.
The Riptide opened the pool play with a 10-6 win over the New Milford Chaos as DiBlasio had two hits and both Jessica Otto and Meyerson had solid days at the plate. Annalise Icatar and Garcia both pitched in the victory.
Icatar pitched again in the second pool play game as the Riptide defeated the Bethel Blast 5-4. Lowden had another strong day at the plate and Julia Sferlazza led the defense.
On elimination day, the Riptide won its first-round game 11-0 over the New Milford Chaos as Icatar and Brenda Garcia combined to pitch a shutout. Sferlazza, DiBlasio and Tatyanna Molina all had strong days at the plate.
In the semifinals, the Riptide defeated the Darien Tidal Wave 99's 4-3 behind a complete-game effort by Brianny Garcia and a pair of hits in the final inning by Icatar and DiBlasio. Jillian Howe chipped in in the team's efforts on offense.
